Despite having less than 0.1% of the world’s population Scotland’s renewable energy resources are exceptional by European and even global standards, with the most important potential sources being wind, wave and tidal power.

There are already several renewable energy projects underway in Scotland that will generate more than 20GW (gigawatts) of power. Within the industry there is great potential for additional growth which has created a huge demand for a skilled workforce to service the future needs of the renewables sector.

However, due to the rapid development of this emerging industry a skills gap currently exists. This needs to be overcome so that the growth and development of companies involved in the renewables sector is not held back. TRESTA has therefore been established to provide comprehensive, practical training in the key technologies required to generate clean power in the offshore wind, wave and tidal energy fields. TRESTA will consequently help reduce the skills gap that currently exists both locally and nationally.

With youth unemployment at an all-time high the renewables sector provides those seeking work with a fantastic opportunity. As an emerging and growing industry it also presents additional employment prospects for those wishing to retrain or up skill, or those who are employed in industries which have been affected by the economic downturn.

With on-going investment and continued Government support, the renewables sector will have a positive impact on the Scottish economy with the creation of tens of thousands of additional new jobs in this developing and vibrant new sector.
